Green Meadow Stream
This recording was made in 1988, east of Yuba Pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, CA, one year before logging took place. Although the logging was selective, this habitat was so significantly altered that the soundscape on this CD can no longer be experienced. Extinction takes many forms. Here is an example of a gorgeous biophony - recorded before it vanished. ~Bernie Krause

Birds: American dipper, red-winged blackbird, chipping sparrow, yellow warbler, willow flycatcher, American robin, mountain quail, Lincoln sparrow.

Ocean Wonders
We know so little about why and (sometimes) how creatures vocalize. This is especially true of marine creatures whose sounds never cease to surprise, delight and engage us. This soundscape features birds, whales, and crustaceans as part of the aural texture of the experience. In addition, we hear fish that are especially active vocally around the coral reefs of the world that are still healthy and viable. ~Bernie Krause

Birds: California gulls, mew gulls, herring gulls, killdeer, golden plover

Sumatra Days, Sumatra Nights
One of the few, small, biological islands left intact in Indonesia is under constant pressure from local populations who need access to its fragile resources for warmth and food. For a few days during our lengthy visit, we have been particularly lucky. We found a time and location within this lush forest where there was little interference from either the road or stream or other human noises - all some miles from where we hiked. ~Bernie Krause

Whales, Wolves and Eagles of Glacier Bay
Few places on earth are as varied biologically as Alaska and none more breathtaking than the area in and around Glacier Bay National Park. Humpback whales cavort just a few feet from our campsite, bald eagles scream, orcas attack a lone humpback about 100 meters from our boat, glaciers produce a low groan as they power their ways over the terrain. ~Bernie Krause
